DA Hike : Ahead of the festival of Holi, the Uttar Pradesh government has brought a smile on the faces of its employees by approving a 4% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA). Reminiscent of the recent hikes announced by the Central government, the decision will benefit around 10 lakh state employees and 8 lakh teachers across Uttar Pradesh.

The announcement marks a significant financial commitment by the Yogi Adityanath-led government with an additional burden of Rs 350 crore on the government exchequer. This increase in DA, effective from January 1, 2024, promises a significant increase in the salaries of state employees, providing much-needed relief amid the rising cost of living.

Reiterating the gesture of the Central Government towards its employees, the Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to increase the DA of its employees from 46% to 50%. This substantial growth is expected to positively impact the livelihoods of countless families across the state, enhancing their purchasing power and overall financial well-being.

Deepak Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Finance, Government of Uttar Pradesh, has played a key role in issuing necessary instructions to facilitate the implementation of this DA increase. As per the official order, employees can expect that the dues of January and February will be credited to their Provident Fund (PF) accounts, while the DA of March will be distributed along with the salary of April.

The impact of this decision goes beyond immediate gratification, with employees set to experience tangible improvements in their monthly income. For example, the basic salary of Rs 18,000, which earlier carried DA of Rs 8,280 at 46%, will now become Rs 9,000 at 50%, resulting in a direct increase in salary of Rs. 720.

Similarly, employees earning the maximum basic pay, say Rs. 56,900, will see a significant jump in their earnings. Earlier, the DA of Rs. 26,174 at 46% will now become Rs. 28,450 at 50%, which is equivalent to a significant increase of Rs. 2,276 in salary.
